MYSTERY: Stan Knight or Stan McDaniel?

Several months ago, I received two emails from Charles Orr regarding the mixing up of two of our classmate’s information, one of whom was reported as having died. My annuals are in storage while going through the perpetual remodeling of our home, so if there is anyone out there who has more information, please send it this way. I would love to have our website and online CD as accurate as possible. Here is the communication from Charles and the photo in question:

Hello,

I was browsing the AHS web site and noticed that a “Stan Knight” is listed among the classmates who have passed away. I recognize the photo to really be that of “Stan McDaniel,” not “Stan Knight.” I was wondering if there was a mistake with the name and Stan McDaniel actually did pass away or if someone else whose real name is “Stan Knight” passed away, but you have the wrong photo for him. If you could clear this up for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Both Stan McDaniel and Stan Knight appear in the 1961 Colt Corral, I believe, correctly. Stan McDaniel is listed as a Junior in 1961 and Stan Knight a Sophomore. I know this to actually be Stan McDaniel’s photo appearing in the 1961 Colt Corral because we grew up together here in Arlington and were very close friends. However, I lost contact with him in 1984. As far as Stan Knight is concerned, I never knew him at all. If you look at the index of student names in the back of the 1962 Colt Corral, Stan McDaniel’s name does not even appear once. However, Stan Knight’s picture is referenced seven times. It appears to be the same person as in the 1961 Colt Corral in all places except one (page 331 where the main senior photo appears). For some unknown reason, Stan McDaniel’s picture mistakenly appears there instead of Stan Knight’s. I don’t believe that Stan McDaniel actually graduated in 1962. I believe he joined the Air Force before he graduated. Anyway, I hope this helps you solve this mystery. So, at this point, I guess we really do not know who died, whether it was Stan Knight or Stan McDaniel. Do you have any record of who made the notification of “Stan Knight’s” death? If you knew that person, perhaps he could shed more light on this mystery.

Thanks

Charles Orr
