Dear Alumni,

The reunion is just around the corner and the class needs information and photos from each and every one of you to update the AHS Class CD. At the last reunion, the CD was a huge hit and many have asked that it be updated for this reunion. I would love to do that, but I MUST have information and photographs to put on your pages! Please send the information and digital photos to this email address and if you need to send actual photos or typed pages, mail them to:

AHS Class of 1962
c/o Mary Tannahill
2018 Misty Creek Dr.
Arlington, TX 76017-2732.

Send what you want knowing any originals will be returned. ALL CLASS MEMBERS WILL HAVE FREE ACCESS TO THE CD PAGES SO PLEASE HELP WITH THIS PROJECT!

Let’s make it a 100% participation! (And thanks to all who have sent things in so far.)

Thanks! Sandra Brown Wellborn

John R. Walden, 87, successfully completed his journey through this life, peacefully reaching his final destination in Fort Worth Saturday, June 23, 2007, as the result of a massive stroke. He had bravely faced all of his health challenges from polio, NPH and the brain surgery to restore his balance.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Glenwood Cemetery, Alvarado. Visitation: The family looks forward to reminiscing and celebrating John R.’s life with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

John R. was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Kansas and moved to Alvarado at the age of 4. John graduated from AHS (’36), attended Texas A&M, then left for service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He returned to Alvarado where he was on the city council until becoming mayor for consecutive terms. John R. also ran the family businesses until the family moved to Arlington in 1953.

His aircraft engineering career spanned 43 years: from North American to Vought, retiring from LTV management in 1987. After retirement, he enjoyed his passions of playing golf almost daily, traveling with his wife, Iva, and spending time with family, friends and his beloved dachshund “Bo.”

John R. lived his life with high-spirited zeal. Those who knew him were not only exposed to his sense of humor and fun-loving nature, but also to his sense of fairness, his creative problem-solving talents and his sincere desire to help those in need. He was slow to see the faults of others but quick to discover their goodness.

As a husband, he was a partner, provider and supportive and admiring best friend. As a father, he was a strong, loving role model who encouraged education and independence by nurturing his daughter’s talents.

John R. was a loyal friend, a knowledgeable leader, a fierce sports competitor and an individual of great resourcefulness and generosity. He loved life and was a remarkable man.

John R. was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors: Wife, Iva E. Walden of Fort Worth; daughter, Randa Lee Walden Miller of Fort Worth; and a niece and nephew, along with their families.
